Biography Born in Olula del Rio, Almería, on September 24 1971, lbáñez spent the first six years of his life with his grandfather, who was a great artist, gilder, carpenter, musician, sculptor, etc. Even at this age he showed interest and a prodigious talent for drawing which is in fact his main form of expression. Since childhood he studied the great teachers in detail, holding his first exhibition at the age of 11 in Albox, Almería. By the age of 17 he began his professional painting career, with exhibitions across Spain. In 1989, at the age of 18, he obtained first prize in the competition 'Andalusian Youth Painting' with his work 'Danae'. Between 1991 and 1992 he executed the murals at the Esperanza's Chapel in Málaga, on the 600m2 surface of the canyon's vault. In 1993 he painted the canvas which hangs in Rome, in the San Pedro Square depicting the ceremony of beatification of the Martyrs of Almería. Also in 1993, the University of Navarrese organised the painter's sample that his studies of Superior Architecture there from 1989, concluding them in 1996, date in which his obtains Architect's title Urbanist. 1994 was a key year, with the execution of 'The Childhood of Baco', better known by it's nickname 'The Baquillos'. Between 1995 and 1996, he executed eight gigantic canvases for the main altarpiece of the new Cathedral of San Salvador, Republic of El Salvador. Subsequently, he has held celebrated exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, and London. In 1997, the first phase of the 'Museum Casa Ibáñez' was inaugurated in Olula del Rio, coinciding with his volume on Beethoven being published. In 1998, he executed the frescoes on the dome of the Cathedral of San Salvador, covering a surface of 1000m2. During this trip, he completed 20 canvases which he donated to UNICEF Spain, with exhibitions in Almería, Provincial Delegation, and Madrid, Museum of the City. In 1999 he received the National Medal from UNICEF from Her Highness the Infanta Margarita. In 2000, he worked on his major series of paintings entitled 'The Fallacy Of The Sign'. 'The Death Of God' was presented in the fairs of Barcelona, Valencia and Seville the following year. From 2001 the Junta de Andalucia and Delegation of Almería, held a retrospective of his work. Throughout his career, lbáñez has lived for art, dedicating his life to painting and to studying artistic expression. He has created his own world in which he immerses himself and which he has recreated in his Museum. He is currently working on the second and final phase of the museum which will create over 2000 m2 of exhibition space.
